How to Apply for PF Withdrawal from EPFO?
Whenever you want to withdraw your EPF, you have to follow the procedure as laid by EPFO. This withdrawal can be in any case
- You are in job and want to withdraw EPF partially for emergencies.
- You have resigned from your job.
- After your retirement.
In first 2 cases you should withdraw only if you have no other source left. This PF is your retirement fund and if you will use it today, it will be a problem for you in future. Try to accumulate money in EPF during your job as will only secure your future. Moreover if you withdraw your EPF before 5 years it becomes taxable too.
Online PF Withdrawal
EPFO is trying to start the online withdrawal facility of EPF. But it has not started yet and we hope that it will start soon. Right now EPF Online transfer facility is started known as OTCP (Online Transfer Claim Portal). Introduction of UAN is a big step from EPFO and soon it will give us more facilities online. Very soon we shall be witnessing many other facilities like online withdrawal etc.
Now I am going to describe the complete process of EPF withdrawal!
Forms to Withdraw EPF
To withdraw money from EPF account you need to fill and submit form 19. You can download the form here or get it from your employer.

In case the EPF beneficiary is no more than the nominee has to fill Form 20 to withdraw his/her EPF. In such cases the spouse and children are eligible for pension also. Only 2 children at a time are eligible to claim pension. In case there are 4 children then only the elder 2 will get pension till the age of 25. When the eldest child attains 25 years of age the 3rd one will start getting pension. In same way when 2nd eldest child will be of 25 years, the youngest child will start getting pension.
Till when Children will get Pension
- Children get pension only till age of 25 years.
- In case of male child either 25 years of age or till he gets any government job whichever is earlier.
- In case of female child either 25 years of age or till she gets any government job whichever or she gets married whatever happens first.
Form to withdraw Pension
To withdraw pension money you need to fill form 10C or 10D. Let me explain when to fill which form.
- If duration of your service (all jobs from start to end) is less than 10 years, then you have 2 options:
(a) Withdraw your pension in lump sum amount (all pension money together) Fill form 10C in this case.
(b) Scheme Certificate: You can opt for this if you intend to do job again future. With Scheme Certificate, you get verified your last service and salary and when you do further job, these records will be added to new job on surrendering of Certificate. In case after getting this certificate you died, your family will get pension on surrendering of Scheme Certificate. - If total duration of your job is more than 10 years then you are not eligible for lump sum withdrawal benefit. You can withdraw your pension only after age of 50 years or less than 58 years. In this case you can claim only monthly pension. For this you have to fill Form 10D.
Information and Documents Required with Claim Forms
- EPF Account Number
- Date of starting your Job.
- Date of Leaving/Retirement
- Bank Details (Account Number and IFSC Code)
- Cancelled Cheque
You should have all these details handy while filling Form 19. You should also maintain good relation with HR department of your company as it will ease and speed up the process. You can now withdraw your EPF without employers’ verification also
Procedure of Application
- Collect all the information told above.
- Take a cancelled cheque with you.
- Fill the Form 19 and Form 10C
- Get your Pan Card Copy & Form 15G handy for Tax Exemptions.
- Visit HR department of your company.
- Submit the completed form along with cancelled cheque, Pan Card Copy & Form 15G to them. If you do not have any information accurately like date of joining etc. the HR team may help you in it. You can even get Form 19 and Form 10C from them also.
- Human Resource Department will attest your form and send it to regional EPF Office
- EPFO takes approx. one month to process your application.
- If everything goes right your money will be transferred to your bank account.
- You can check your EPF withdrawal application status here and check your EPF Balance here.
Problems faced during Provident Fund Withdrawal
Mostly if you have completed the form perfectly and get it verified from employer there arise no problems. But some of my readers and friends have faced problems which I am discussing here.
- Signature does not match – You must have signed your EPF account form a long time ago and there are chances that now your signatures doesn’t match in that case you have provide an Affidavit for verification of signature and this Affidavit should be verified by employer too.
- Spelling Mismatch – There may be mismatch in spelling in any name then it has to verified again by employer and resubmit the form.
- Bank Account Closed – In case you have closed your bank account which you submitted in EPF account, you have to get your new bank account verified by employer. An Affidavit will also to be submitted in this case.
- Employer EPF contribution – In case your employer has not deposited his contribution of EPF you may have to wait some days or you may complain EPFO.
- Employer doesn’t have your PF Account Number- In this case you may get it on your salary slip or you might be having record of it. If you can’t find it then you can write to EPFO with all your details. You can even write to EPFO Grievance Cell. (Android App)
In case there is any conflict with your employer or the company is closed, then you have to go with other method of applying for PF withdrawal without Employers attestation which we have discussed earlier.

I have applied almost 15 days before (17th JAN) and status is showing as Send To Field Office( on same Day 17th JAN), Current Status – Under Process.
1 – May I know if I still need to download any form and sign any hard copy and submit at PF Office?

I have applied for PF withdrawal 3 months before, however after 3 months PF forms were rejected with the reason that ” Account Number Differ” and returned to home.
I have employer acc. with CITI bank, same details available with KYC, but I requested other bank acc. with ICICI and I have sent cancelled check of ICICI to EFF org.
Is it the issue of rejecting my application ? Can’t I use other bank account to withdraw the amount.

Please note 4-5 time I send the mail to PF office regarding the claim ID GNGGN130900016285 Payment .But still I did not get any correct information from PF office.
This behaviour is not correct, because of you fault one cheque amount is not transfer to my account.

Anyways, Is this a Local Baniya Shop? Even if you try that, you can be prosecuted under IPC Section & CrPC Act for 420, fraud and fabrication of documents and also misleading a Govt Agency intentionally. Also, in that case your father’s name & other details would not match. Moreover, even if it matches, who will be responsible for Tax Deductions?
Better option is to go for a name change and correct the records. Check Name Correction Process..

Which sms are you talking? Where did you asked for getting PF Balance? What are you doing? Daily asking a new query? All you started was that your name is mismatched. Than you asked us about doing some fraud. Than you asked Form Number to withdrawal PF.. Than about changing mobile number. Now you come up with not getting any sms and UAN No? But when did you asked for it? Can’t you ask all queries in one time?

I can explain that why I was asking. First I had join company in year 2010 and I had worked only one year and on that time was no UAN running so I am not able to check my name in PF account due to company or PF office mistake then I left the company for 2 months and I again join same company with different PF account and UAN number and Now I was try to transfer old PF in to New PF when I got UAN in Dec 2014 but my old PF not transferring in to new account cause old PF shows wrong name now my employer are trying for resolving this issue but side by side I wants also know about my old PF so I am doing legally way and nothing doing any fraud. thank you mam your co-operation and I apologies if I taken your important time.

It’s been six years that I left my teaching job in a private school. I filled up necessary formats two times in my school but I have not received my PF money. When I contact the head office at bhupal they have again sent me the forms 19, 10C, 15G and asked me to resubmit with all documents like bank pass book, PAN card , adhar etc. They have also asked me to upload my bank pass book, and PAN card at the website of Epf india (UP-NOIDA ). I tried but i have not found any option for uploading. Kindly suggest mam. I am on the verge of giving up my pf money.

Your School hasn’t submitted your documents. Submit all documents again to school. Documents can only be uploaded to EPF Site if you have UAN activated..
